Getting started
Install Zapette
On an iPhone or iPad with iOS 16 or later, or on a Mac with macOS 15 or later.
Pick your TV
Turn on your Apple TV. It shows up in the list when it's on the same Wi-Fi.
Type the code
Enter the 4-digit code shown on your TV. Zapette remembers it.
Common issues
Zapette can't find my Apple TV.
Make sure the Apple TV is on and that your device is on the same Wi-Fi, not on a guest network or behind a VPN. Also check that Zapette can access the local network: on iPhone and iPad, in Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network; on Mac, in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
The code is rejected.
A new code then appears on your TV: enter that new code. The code changes on every attempt.
The volume buttons are greyed out.
Zapette changes the volume through the Apple TV, which passes it to the TV over the HDMI cable (HDMI-CEC). On the Apple TV, open Settings > Remotes and Devices and set "Volume Control" to HDMI. If the Siri Remote can't change the volume in that mode either, your TV doesn't support volume over HDMI-CEC.
The TV doesn't turn on or off with Zapette.
The TV follows the Apple TV only when HDMI-CEC is on, meaning "Volume Control" is set to HDMI in the Apple TV settings, and when the TV supports it.
Zapette disconnects.
Zapette reconnects on its own when you come back to the app or when Wi-Fi returns. If it doesn't, check that the Apple TV is on and on the same network.
How do I type text on the TV?
When the TV is waiting for text, such as a search or a login, use Zapette's "Text Input" field: the text appears straight on the TV.
How do I pair again or remove an Apple TV?
In Zapette's settings, tap "Forget" next to the Apple TV. Zapette erases the pairing and your app settings for that TV; you'll need to enter a new code.
Is Zapette available on Android or for other TVs?
Not yet: Zapette works with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. Android TV comes next. .
